Just
In Case
Products:
VNB, VNC
As
the name implies, secondary containment is all about the
"just in case." Primary vessels containing hazardous
and corrosive chemicals can and do leak occasionally, as
do pumps and piping. The EPA mandates that containment areas
are built around these areas to eliminate the possibility
of groundwater contamination. But what if the secondary
containment system fails?
The
Conemaugh Power Plant in New Florence, PA experienced a
secondary containment failure, and called in the experts
- Electro-Chemical Engineering of Emmaus, PA to solve their
problems. Dibasic Acid had breached the existing coating
system. Electro Chemical Engineering recommended Polymerica's
MasterShield VNC Vinyl Ester Novolac Coating, which would
resist attack from the powerful acid.
After
performing bond tests, the crew hand ground the existing
coating, and roller applied a primer and two coats of the
VNC at 8 - 10 mils each. With all the piping to work around,
it was difficult job, but the client got a "thumbs
up" from the certified EPA inspector. Just in case,
Polymerica is there to help.
